Laundry closet to Laundry ROOM!!!

So the part I didn't post yesterday because my mom hadn't seen it in person and I wanted to wait for her to see it before the pictures was the amazing transformation of a boring Laundry Closet into an amazing Laundry room!!
Before the laundry was just attached to the living room and was just a closet

So I painted it teal so it would rock with the white appliances
But this weekend Dad the put up a wall and now its a Laundry room!!

I will have my entertainment center against this new wall.
On the inside of the laundry room we are putting a large counter and hanging rod so I will have lots of space to fold/ hang to dry.
(not finished yet)

This will also serve as a pantry so I am putting a large shelving unit for my coupon steals and possibly the left over wall cabinets from the kitchen... undecided on that.
And someday I will put a track light over the counter... but for now a lamp.

Sink!!!

This weekend was madness! Saturday my dad was able to focus on my parents house and the work there so I was able to be a slacker (much needed!!) I caught up on tv while I did laundry and other fun house keeping activities. Then I went to my house where I have been applying wood stain and varnish to the trim work. Which I  think looks amazing. I have to say I have no idea you were to sand them and after I learned that WOW!!

The super bowl might be next Sunday , but this weekend was SUPER, in the crazy amount of work we got done! The plan was a sink...
Before the sink we put the sponge/ring holder's in the fake drawer under the sink. So much easier to apply when the top was open and there was no sink in the way.

Of course it took longer than expected. But better to start with a sink hole that is smaller than the sink and slowly get bigger with the hole cause you can not grow the sink...
So after several hole expanding cuts the sink fit!!

And more important we were able to salvage the new facet they had just put in the old kitchen so that's a nice savings! And its a nice facet!
I did tell my dad the warm was on correctly while he was hooking up the plumbing several hours later I realized I had them backwards so I used my muscles and was able to switch the flew tubing all by myself! Yeah add plummer to my resume!!
Also I was able to snag a major find at Target!! They had their curtains on clearance!! So I picked up some to finally rid myself of the terrible lace ones. The lace had to go for several reasons... for example I am not 60, you can see through them and quiet frankly I hate them. so good bye lace hello privacy curtains

Hey look at that...

From day one I have wanted to get rid of this stupid ugly microwave cabinet that was left behind, I just felt it looked terrible and really chopped up the room.
So I wanted to add a counter top and cabinets. Regular base cabinets are to deep so I got wall cabinets and my dad built a frame then we added a counter and I think it looks GREAT!!
of course the bottom still needs the toe kick and I need to add the filler on the side.
My new microwave will go on the wall above this

Head Colds make the job... Interesting

So this weekend was interesting! I am battling a major head cold so energy was already on a low. Then as we started to work I became more and more weak and no reasonable thought was entering my cloud covered brain. But I tried...
So my dad gives me the task of switching the door handles on the refrigerator, or as a anyone 2 generations ahead of me would call it "The Frigidaire", I swear I read the directions on it like 6 times NOTHING was computing in my brain, I just could not think so I thought why not just start taking screws out and find my way...
I did pretty good, I was able to get the handles off
And I got the doors off

I will admit I couldn't do it all on my own I had to call in my mussel cause I was to weak to get some of the more stubborn screws out
In the end I think I did a pretty good job...

Everything BUT the kitchen sink

So another weekend gone and more work done.
Don't think I mentioned it before but my brother has been home since New Years Day, on leave from the Air Force. So my poor dad has been pulled in several directions. He has their new house, my new house, and spending time with his son all trying to get his attention.Somehow he found a way to make it happen.
Remember when we knocked out a wall... well that big hole is the future site of my kitchen cabinets including the sink. So my house has been without a kitchen sink for 2 weeks (and counting).
However we had major progress this weekend. I say "we" like I did something but really I cleaned up and lifted or held something in place when told to, my dad deserves a cape he has super powers when it comes to home improvement.
My oven/stove/range whatever you would like to call it is switching places with my sink, so that means crawling under the house to re-wire and new pluming. Which he was able to do. Then we placed the cabinets and got them leveled and screwed together. Oh happy surprise BEAUTIFUL hard wood floors under the dining room carpet and I am assuming into the 2 bedrooms. Maybe someday I will tear out the carpet.
So cabinets in place we cut some of the counter top and placed that, including the plywood part for the big counter top so you can get a sense of where everything will go and how it will look. I love it!! It really opened up the house and made the kitchen VERY large. No more random oven sitting in the middle of the room.
Also made a trip to Lowes were I got a STEAL on a microwave and an amazing deal on a new stove!! So it will fully be a brand new everything when its all finished.
Maybe next weekend we can finish the counter top and I can get a sink back!! Really hard to do anything without a kitchen sink. But what I can do is clean woodwork so maybe I will try to get that done this week...depends on my motivation after work which tends to be lacking.
Remember the hole...

sneak peek at hard wood floors

Cabinets (with OLD stove)
Like I said OLD stove, my pretty new one is in the garage in a box

its going to be GREAT!!!

Walls? Who needs those??

So my kitchen was so small and the stove was sitting in the middle of the room! Anyone who knows me knows this is unacceptable. I love to cook and try out new things, and I would need a nice functioning kitchen to do that. Also the cabinets were extremely outdated and needed to be put to rest (aka moved to my garage to end its life in garage service)
So I spent several hours at Menards- and 2 lumber carts, 1 shopping cart and a pick up around the back of the store later... we were driving home with a new Kitchen and Laundry room extension in the back of my dad's truck and a door in the back of moms' van.
Back to my house we start tearing apart the kitchen, the counter was apparently placed there by the hand of God and took almost as much to get it off! We actually gave up on it and moved to the wall.
4 blades were sacrificed in the first 2 feet of the drywall so we went to plan B were hammers were used. we smashed through the kitchen wall, then the dining room wall.
I was left with a huge hole and some support beams... it was around this point where my dad mentioned he has never done this before- no worries I have faith in him!
So we build some makeshift walls to "hold up" the ceiling just in case things go bad when we cut the support beams...
Fingers crossed and prayers said we cut the supports one by one... no unexpected cave in's so we moved on.
Put in new supports across the ceiling and took out our makeshift wall and stood back to admire the hole. Already major changes in the room it opened it up so much!!
Bonus we were able to save the curved ceiling in the dining room.
Next step dad will crawl under the house to move the electric and pluming so the sink can go into the new hole area and the stove will go under the window. Then we will add the cabinets and counter tops.

You have a delivery...

So while I was walking around Target I got a call that I have a delivery
When I got home I had this amazing plant from my bank guy!!

I LOVE plants so this was an amazing gift!!

Dining Room

Ohhhhh the dining room- this situation needed to be addressed ASAP the walls were a BRIGHT PASTEL LIME GREEN, not a cool hip green it was tragic and bad!!!
The pictures do not do it justice because I took them in natural light, but when it was dark and just the Ikea and Target lamps were glowing those walls were painful!!!
So 2 months ago I feel in love with the color "blue blood" (also a great TV show) this color was a grey/blueish tint that just was unique and I really was sold on it.  I get to the paint department and I am walking around with my awesome blue and I step under the light and my wonderful blue turns green! NOOOOO so i rush to put that away and look for a blue. I found this great blue that was much more royal than I planned but it really looks good.Again it really makes the wood on the baseboards pop.
